Biography

 


Emily Gurwitz is a private flute instructor in San Antonio, Texas, and teaches mainly high school students. She received her Bachelor of Music in Music Education from Trinity University in San Antonio and her Master of Music in Flute Performance from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. She has been a middle school band director for over ten years and a private flute instructor for over fifteen years. Ms. Gurwitz has given many masterclasses and taught at various band camps over the years, including the Interlochen Summer Academy in Michigan.

Ms. Gurwitz has regularly had high school flute students qualify for the Texas All-State Band or Orchestra (Texas All-State flute players are approximately the top 35 flute players selected from the state of Texas from a series of District, Region, and Area Competitions) from her flute studio over the past several years. Along with her teaching endeavors she has performed on flute in the Southern Music Wind Ensemble as well as the San Antonio Wind Ensemble. She has also performed on alto and tenor saxophone in the Ed Geimer Jazz Orchestra. Ms. Gurwitz has been married to Elliott Gurwitz since 1996 and they have two children.
